Buyers Guide

Looking To Buy A Roller Garage Door? Initial Things To Consider

A well-chosen garage door can enhance your home's appeal and your ease of use for years to come. Some of the factors to consider in choosing your new or replacement garage door are whether you have a power supply for an automatic electric door or are you looking at just a manual door, how often your garage is used, is it mainly to store and protect your car or if incorporating tools and other goods then consider the value of what you store there. Consider the appearance you are looking for and whether you want it to match the existing aesthetics of your property. If high security is a major factor consider our Excel garage door.

Garage door costs vary widely depending on materials, style, and features. We use only quality garage doors manufactured locally in Lancashire by SWS who has maintained its position as UK market leader through continuous development and innovation. All our roller garage doors carry up to 7 years warranty depending on product. If you are responding to an advert or receiving a quote from other installers, check they are not using lower quality imported doors which may have headline grabbing low prices but which unfortunatley we are increasingly called out to repair.

Your contents are likely to be of value to you so consider ensuring the security features of the door match your needs. Our Classic and Excel Security doors are insurance approved and accredited by the Police Preferred Standard of Secured By Design (SBD) giving you valuable peace of mind. You can find out more about the police secured initiative Secured by Design here. All our electric garage doors come with remote control as standard combining the convenience of powered smooth operation, tailor made to fit your garage opening. A Guide To Measuring For Your Garage Door

View the relevant video below as a guide to checking your existing door size - either to fit your door inside your existing brickword (reveal) or to the inside of the opening (face fit). Please note this guide is for roller garage doors only and not for sectional doors. If you have these to hand when you ring us we can give you a more accurate quote. Alternatively you can simply book a survey with us and we can make all the measurements for you as well as advise you on our range of doors.

Reveal Fit

  • Measure the Overall Guide Width (includes guide rails) and Guide Height for pricing. 75mm Guide Rails are supplied as standard for all door widths up to 4600mm. Doors over 4600mm wide come with 90mm guides
  • Ideally measure in two places to allow for any misalignment of your existing opening. For our Classic and Excel garage doors we recommend 110mm of bottom slat should hang down into the guide rails when the door is fully raised. Our Manual doors require 105mm and the Compact only 50mm hangdown. Below this is the Drive Through Height.
  • The Total Height is the Guide Height plus the Headroom needed for the top box end plate. For Guide Heights up to 2500mm the headroom for top box end plate is 300mm and up to 3500mm headroom needed is 350mm. We have compact roller doors that can fit just 205mm (8") of headroom.

Face Fit

Through continuous development our range of garage doors boast many unique safety, security and design features. If you have a limited headroom space take a look at our compact garage doors which only requires only 8” (205mm)of headroom. On our sectional doors the design makes the most of the space both inside and outside of the garage and generally offers the best final drive through aperture when fully opened. As each door is made to measure to your exact requirements you will be receiving a garage door that contains the latest features.
